KEY BISCAYNE INFOMATION
In September 1983, while undertow from Darwin to Cockburn Sound for stacking to await deployment, the Key Biscayne and it's support vessels the Atlas Van Diemen and Argus Guard struck rough weather.
When the tow line snapped in gale force winds and heavy seas the Key Biscayne sunk. It now resides upside down in 42m of water with the top of the structure in around 26m, approx 19km north west of Ledge Point off Lancelin WA. Luckily All 52 crew were rescued uninjured by helicopter.
The wreck structure supports a wide variety of life from colorful sponges, ascidains, bright gorgonian fans and invertebrate life. It also holds large schools of Trevally and Samson fish, local species such as the Western Australian Dhufish, Pink Snapper, Port Jackson and Grey Nurse sharks also call the Key Biscayne home. Divers can attest that life on the wreck just keeps getting better with age.
Don't miss your opportunity to dive one of the most exciting wrecks on the West Coast BOOK NOW !
Rottnest Island is only 18km West of Fremantle and is home to a large array of wonderful dive & snorkeling spots. Being an A-Class reserve, this well kept secret has beautiful limestone reefs full of canyons, gullies, caves, swim throughs and a large variety of marine life.
Under the overhangs you will find colorful sponge growth and hard corals, and in the caves you will find schools of bronze bullseyes, leather jackets, talmas and old wives. Over the whole reef structure you can also see wobbegongs, stingrays, harlequin fish, cuttlefish, blue devilfish and much more.
Experience this magical underwater world on a custom built dive boat departing every weekend, and possibly Thursday and Friday if we get the numbers.
